Colson Montgomery’s on-base percentage has now reached a cool .428 thanks to an incredible streak that’s still going. The Chicago White Sox’s top prospect reached base safely for the 50th straight game Sunday with a home run for the Winston-Salem Dash. The big lefty quelled any suspense about reaching the half-century milestone by taking care of business in the first inning of the game.

50 straight games on base is an accomplishment in and of itself. But what’s impressive is that Montgomery has done so across two levels of the minor leagues. The 2021 No. 22 overall draft pick was recently promoted to High-A Winston-Salem from their Low-A counterparts in Kannapolis.

Through 63 games between the two clubs, Montgomery is slashing .323/.428/.494 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 235 at-bats.

Now that the 2022 MLB Draft is underway, we can expect updated prospect rankings to follow soon. Colson Montgomery recently cracked MLB.com’s top 100 prospects list, checking in at No. 92. Baseball America lists him at No. 53 in its mid-season top 100 rankings.

The promotion came as no surprise as Montgomery continues to punish opposing pitchers in the lower minor league levels. High-A is likely not his last stop in 2022 if he follows this trend. The 6-foot-4 shortstop could certainly reach Double-A Birmingham before the conclusion of the 2022 MiLB season.

Montgomery will be a welcome addition to the club at 35th/Shields if he reaches his full potential. He is currently the only top-100 prospect in the Chicago White Sox’s minor league system, although Oscar Colas might not be far behind in joining him.

As for the on-base streak, Montgomery will have to wait until Friday for an opportunity to make it 51 games. The Winston-Salem Dash will host the Rome Braves to open a three-game weekend series upon returning from the All-Star break.
